My Therapeutic Approach

I come from a very relational and attachment-based style. The most predictive factor in therapy is the therapeutic bond between counselor and client, so I am committed to making sure that my clients feel that the therapy environment is a safe, open, and accepting space. I believe that my clients are the experts on their own lives and my job is to help guide them to finding their own answers.

What is Attachment-Based Therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is an approach to therapy that focuses on understanding the way we emotionally bond with each other. It addresses patterns of attachment developed in early relationships and their connection to the adult relationships that we cultivate. This therapy is grounded in attachment theory, which suggests that the quality of early attachments influences an individual's emotional, social, and relational development throughout life.

Key Principles of Attachment-Based Therapy:

Understanding Attachment Patterns

  • Exploring how early experiences with parents/caregivers shape an individual's attachment style and relational patterns. Attachment styles include secure attachment, anxious attachment, avoidant attachment, and disorganized attachment.

Exploring Interpersonal Dynamics

  • Examining how attachment patterns influence interpersonal dynamics, communication styles, and relationship behaviors in adulthood.

Emotional Regulation

  • Helping individuals develop strategies for regulating emotions and managing distress.

Repairing Attachment Wounds

  • Addressing unresolved attachment wounds, trauma, or ruptures in past or present relationships to promote healing and relational repair.

Building Secure Attachments

  • Facilitating the development of secure attachment bonds in therapeutic relationships and in relationships outside of therapy.

Why does attachment matter?

Attachment matters because it is fundamental to the human experience and effects every relationship in our lives. I genuinely believe that attachment work is the most vital work you can do to build your personal and relational insight. With this insight, you can change unhealthy patterns, learn what a secure and meaningful attachment looks like, and ultimately build the deeply connected, rewarding, and lasting relationship that you desire and deserve. Not only is this work extremely helpful in the success of our romantic relationships, but it will improve every relationship in your life.
