Frequently asked questions
Individual Therapy
How long do individual therapy sessions last?
Individual sessions last for 50 minutes.
Do you take insurance?
I am in-network with Aetna.
For all other insurance providers, I am an out of network provider, so I do not bill insurance directly. I can provide a receipt of therapy services for you to file with your insurance for possible reimbursement. However, I encourage you to call your insurance provider first to see if you have coverage for my services on your plan. Ask about "out-of-network coverage for psychotherapy with a Licensed Professional Counselor, CPT code 90837."
What is the cost for individual therapy?
For all clients who are not in-network with Aetna, my fee for individual therapy is $130 per session.
What is the location for individual therapy?
I am completely virtual at this time, so our sessions will take place via Zoom.
All clients must be located in Texas, South Carolina, or Florida.
What does scheduling look like?
I have specific slots available for ongoing, weekly or bi-weekly appointments. During our initial consultation we will discuss what would be the best fit for you and book our session slot then.
How long does individual therapy last for?
There is no rule to determine how long our time together will last. My clients end therapy on their own terms when they feel confident that they are ready to move on. I tend to see folks over an extended period of time, beginning with weekly appointments and tapering sessions down from there.

Couples Therapy
What theory do you use for couples therapy?
I use a combination of Attachment-Based Therapy and Gottman Method Therapy to work with clients. Attachment-Based Therapy helps us to better understand our patterns of relating to one another, where they stem from, and how to break unhealthy patters. While, Gottman Method Therapy helps us to develop practical tools to resolve conflict more effectively and connect with each other more closely.
How do we know if we should start couples therapy?
The reason for starting couples therapy is unique to each couple, however I find it can be supremely helpful when we are running into the same issues and conflicts over and over again and not able to find any resolve on our own. Couples therapy can also be helpful when we are feeling disconnected from one another, have recently undergone a major life transition, or are needing a place to rebuild trust.

It is my belief that this is crucial to the group therapy process.
How do I get started with group therapy?
All of my therapy services begin with a free, 20 minute Zoom consultation. Scheduling a pre-group consultation is not a commitment to join the group. To schedule a consult, you can email me at lindsayburnscounseling@gmail.com or fill out the contact form at the link below.

Attachment-based Therapy
What is your therapeutic approach?
I come from a very relational and attachment-based style. The most predictive factor in therapy is the therapeutic bond between counselor and client, so I am committed to making sure that my clients feel that the therapy environment is a safe, open, and accepting space. I believe that my clients are the experts on their own lives and my job is to help guide them to finding their own answers.
What is Attachment-Based Therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is an approach to therapy that focuses on understanding the way we emotionally bond with each other. It addresses patterns of attachment developed in early relationships and their connection to the adult relationships that we cultivate. This therapy is grounded in attachment theory, which suggests that the quality of early attachments influences an individual's emotional, social, and relational development throughout life.
What are the key principles of attachment-based therapy?
Understanding Attachment Patterns
Exploring how early experiences with parents/caregivers shape an individual's attachment style and relational patterns. Attachment styles include secure attachment, anxious attachment, avoidant attachment, and disorganized attachment.
Exploring Interpersonal Dynamics
Examining how attachment patterns influence interpersonal dynamics, communication styles, and relationship behaviors in adulthood.
Emotional Regulation
Helping individuals develop strategies for regulating emotions and managing distress.
Repairing Attachment Wounds
Addressing unresolved attachment wounds, trauma, or ruptures in past or present relationships to promote healing and relational repair.
Building Secure Attachments
Facilitating the development of secure attachment bonds in therapeutic relationships and in relationships outside of therapy.
Why does Attachment Matter?
Attachment matters because it is fundamental to the human experience and effects every relationship in our lives. I genuinely believe that attachment work is the most vital work you can do to build your personal and relational insight. With this insight, you can change unhealthy patterns, learn what a secure and meaningful attachment looks like, and ultimately build the deeply connected, rewarding, and lasting relationship that you desire and deserve. Not only is this work extremely helpful in the success of our romantic relationships, but it will improve every relationship in your life.
